U.S. Capitol
Visitors Center
Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Capitol Visitor’s Center is a major new addition to the Capitol that was designed and constructed to provide a secure but welcoming entrance to our Capitol for the general public. Located within three levels below ground on the east side of the Capitol, the project incorporated numerous waterproofing systems designs for plazas, tunnels, and fountains.

Gale provided design and construction administration services to RTKL, the prime architect for the project. These services included attending design meetings with the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) to establish Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), assisting with design and construction documents including specifications and details, reviewing and approving building envelope submittals and shop drawings, assisting with review and response to RFIs and Change Order requests, providing periodic site visits and attending progress meetings to provide quality assurance input during construction, and performing post construction commissioning services.
